ABOUT TOM

Tom is a proud native of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, who spent the past 46 years in Greenville, SC, before returning several years ago to what he considers his home base and place of birth—Travelers Rest. Tom’s family roots run deep in the area - generations of his family have been part of this community.

 

After 46 years of experience in the insurance industry, including being president of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of South Carolina (IIABSC) and honored as the South Carolina Agent of the Year (2021), he is currently Market President of the Stokes-Farnham Insurance Agency in Travelers Rest.

The core of Tom’s belief system is a result of being raised by a family, particularly his father, who instilled in him the conviction that serving others is “the rent we pay for being in this world." In 2022, Tom founded and launched the Travelers Rest Police & Fire Foundation to support the men and women in fire departments and law enforcement to enhance their relationship with the community.

 

Close to his heart is the Cancer Survivors Park in Greenville.  His oldest daughter, Lindsey, after a valiant battle, died of colon cancer when she was 29. His commitment to her and this Park is evidenced by his ongoing support. He is currently President of the Cancer Survivors Park Alliance Board.

 

Tom is a member of the Greenville County Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Board, a Board member of the Greenville Metro YMCA Board, a member of the Board of the Poinsett Club, its President-Elect, and actively involved as a member of the Buncombe Street Methodist Church.

 

Tom is not only a “talker” of family values, personal responsibility, and devotion to the country, he loves. He lives it.

 

Tom, his wife Ashley, and daughter Bladen are active in many activities that enhance their community.
